Two Trine University civil engineering majors presented a report on their analysis
of several trail crossing intersections in Fort Wayne to governmental officials during
class on Friday, Dec. 8.
Camden Nagel of Noblesville, Indiana, and Tyler Hunt of Adrian, Michigan, reviewed
84 hours of video footage from the intersections to compile data for "Evaluating the
Performance of Traffic Control Devices in Trail Crossing Intersections."
The data included the number of interactions between vehicles and trail users at each
intersection, as well as the results of those interactions.
The analysis and report are part of an ongoing partnership between the City of Fort
Wayne and Trine University to help improve safety at trail crossing intersections
throughout the city.
“Every session we’ve had, we’ve learned something new,” said Dan Avery, executive
director of the Northeastern Indiana Regional Coordinating Council.
The partnership allows Trine students to apply their classroom knowledge to a real-world
situation, build their resumes and develop their professional network.
Dawn Ritchie, Greenways Manager for the City of Fort Wayne, asked the students to
present their report to her team in the spring.
WEST LAFAYETTE — Ten students and three faculty from Trine University’s Reiners Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering participated in the annual Civil Engineering Professional Development Seminar (CEPDS), held Nov. 21 at Purdue University.
Nine Trine University seniors from the Reiners Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, accompanied by three department faculty, took part in a senior trip to southern Indiana that included visits to a cement plant, a lock on the Ohio River and a project connecting Interstate 69 with a future bridge into Kentucky.
