A Trine University alumnus who now works as a group sales account executive for the
Detroit Tigers joins the newest episode of Trine University’s Center for Sports Studies podcast to discuss his work and how students can break into the field.
Jackson Billings, who graduated in 2021 with a sport management major, is responsible
for prospecting groups and selling ticket packages for the Tigers. His experience
as a member of Trine’s first National Collegiate Sports Sales Championship team and
a ticket sales intern for the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats helped him land a
career with the team.
In the podcast, Billings shares how sleeping in a mud room and pulling tarp for the
Fisher Cats helped him develop the grit needed to be a successful account representative.
He also shares advice for students who want to break into sports.
Produced through the Trine Broadcasting Network, the Trine Center for Sports Studies
podcast focuses on the business side of sports, including interviews with sports professionals
and current research in sports studies. Hosted by Center for Sports Studies director
Brandon Podgorski, the podcast is available at css.transistor.fm, on platforms such
as Spotify, iTunes, Google Play and Stitcher, and on YouTube.
