When he was recruited to play hockey, Cristian Wong-Ramos instantly fell in love with
Trine University.
“I decided to come to Trine for the athletics and how much the university cares about their NCAA teams,” the Alameda, California, student said. “I wanted to build a new culture and develop a top NCAA Division III team in the nation.”
Strong engineering foundation
Besides being able to compete in hockey, Cristian was excited to get a quality engineering education at Trine. The civil engineering major’s favorite faculty member is Tim Tyler, Ph.D., professor in the Reiners Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Dr. Tyler is also Cristian’s academic advisor.
“He invests in people every day and truly cares about each person and their future,” Cristian said. “He will drop whatever he is doing to help you and get to know you.”
As he prepares to launch his engineering career, Cristian said he has benefited from hands-on experience in Trine’s labs and help the Career Center gave in facilitating two internships.
Favorite memories include beating the former NCAA Division III national champion hockey team and taking a two-week trip to Europe with Trine’s team to play hockey and ski.
“It has been great to call Trine University my home for four years,” Cristian said.
