Trine University’s annual Trine Day, a celebration of the university as well as an opportunity to support its mission, set records for number of donors and funds raised, bringing in more than $160,000 for scholarships, academic and athletic needs, and student organizations.
Held for 1,884 minutes from April 24-25, the effort raised $160,218, given by 669 donors.
“Once again, the Trine family has come together to provide our current and future students with one of the best college experiences around, and the financial support to afford it,” said Matt Land, vice president for advancement at Trine. “We are grateful for each person who gave during Trine Day and continue to be excited about the future of this university and its students, thanks to our generous donors.”
The 1,884-minute time frame reflects the year 1884, when a group of visionary Angola, Indiana, residents founded Tri-State Normal College, the predecessor of today’s Trine University.
From humble beginnings with two buildings and about 50 teacher training students, the institution has grown to serve more than 13,000 students annually in undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs in engineering, business, health sciences, education and arts and sciences.

Trine University students learned about opportunities available with the Purdue Data Mine during a special presentation on April 10 in the Mark and Sarah Music/Ruoff Mortgage Esports Arena.
Trine University has received a lead gift from Dr. Rick L. James, alumnus and chair of the university’s Board of Trustees, and his wife, Dr. Vicki L. James, for a new building to house Trine’s business school.
Trine University’s esports teams won the Block House Esports League MIAA competition Sunday, April 12, the first time Trine has secured the title in back-to-back semesters.
