Alpha Sigma Phi (ASP)

Alpha Sigma Phi on the Tri-State College campus started locally in 1924; then merged with another local fraternity and then with a small, national fraternity in 1935. In 1945, our small, national fraternity merged with Alpha Sigma Phi National Fraternity which in 2015 achieved 100 active chapters around North America and Europe. Since 1935 our chapter has initiated over 1200 members.

Alpha Sigma Phi is a lifelong brotherhood and the brothers of the Beta Omicron chapter represent a diverse cross section of society and have committed themselves to the ideals of silence, charity, honor, purity, and patriotism.   

Alpha Sigma Phi undergraduates have been Trine varsity athletes, Modulus and Triangle editors, student government presidents, and many other campus leaders.  As Trine alumni, they have become lawyers, educators, a secret service agent, police officers, military men, journalists, the longest serving Trine University Board Chairman, a Hollywood actor/producer, two NASA engineers and hundreds of other successful engineers and businessmen. Our first physician is in medical school now. These successes began at Alpha Sigma Phi on the Trine campus in an environment of academics, leadership, and friendship. The history of the local chapter epitomizes the fraternity’s motto “To Better the Man.”

The Beta Omicron Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi has occupied six different fraternity houses in Angola since 1935 including the last one from 1976 through 2015.  Now there’s a bright, new fraternity house at the corner of Darling and Gale Streets. Our members-for-life alumni since 1935 have donated almost a million dollars to pay for a modern residence for undergraduate members while they are students at Trine University.
