Summary

The Student Success Librarian plays a key role in supporting student and faculty success by delivering high-quality research assistance, developing engaging information literacy instruction, and promoting library resources and services across campus. Working as part of a small, collaborative team, the librarian will build strong relationships with academic departments and student organizations, contribute to collection development, and support broader library initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Areas of Focus:

  • Reference & Research Support: Provide expert assistance to students, faculty, and staff in using library resources, including databases, research tools, OER support, and interlibrary loan services.
  • Information Literacy Instruction: Design and deliver library instruction sessions, workshops, and online tutorials tailored to course needs and disciplinary contexts. Collaborate with faculty to embed information literacy into the curriculum.
  • Outreach & Engagement: Work with faculty, campus departments, and student groups to promote library services and foster campus-wide engagement with library resources.
  • Consortia Collaboration (PALNI): Represent Trine University on the PALNI Reference, Instruction, and Outreach Committee and participate in collaborative initiatives.

Additional Responsibilities (in collaboration with library staff):

  • Collection Development: Assist in the selection, assessment, and weeding of physical and online collections to support academic programs.
  • LibGuides: Create and maintain online research guides to support courses, disciplines, and student research.
  • Assessment: Support ongoing evaluation of instruction, reference services, and resources to inform decision-making and improve user experience.
  • Scholarly Communication & OER: Stay current with trends in scholarly communication, copyright, and open educational resources. Provide guidance to faculty and staff as requested.
  • Library System Migration: Assist with the migration to a new library management system, including data cleanup, testing, training, documentation, and communication with stakeholders.
  • Instructional Technologies: Support the use and integration of digital tools and platforms for research and instruction, including learning management systems, citation management tools, and content creation tools.
  • Circulation Support: Provide backup assistance at the circulation desk as needed. Maintain working knowledge of the library management system.
  • Policy and Planning: Contribute to policy development, budget planning, and operational decision-making in collaboration with library leadership, staff, and campus stakeholders.
  • Student Assistant Supervision: Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise student assistants assigned to Library and Information Services, ensuring effective support and professional development.
  • Professional Engagement: Participate in relevant professional organizations, conferences, and training to stay current with trends in academic librarianship.
  • Library Marketing: Assist in developing promotional materials, social media content, and events to raise awareness of library services and resources.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Contribute to the overall success of the library by performing additional tasks, participating in special projects, or taking on new responsibilities as needed to support evolving departmental goals and university priorities.

 Education and/or Experience

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program
  • Experience providing reference and instruction in an academic or library setting
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency with library databases, discovery tools, and digital learning platforms
  • Commitment to student-centered service and continuous learning

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with open educational resources (OER) and scholarly communication topics
  • Experience with library marketing, outreach programming, or event planning
  • Comfort with emerging technologies in instruction and research support

Salary

The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
