Trine’s Brooks College of Health Professions hosts presentation on burnout

Patrick RieckeHealthcare professionals can learn how to avoid and recover from burnout during a free open house and continuing education event hosted by Trine University’s Dr. Earl D. and Melanie N. Brooks College of Health Professions on Oct. 1.

The evening will include tours of the new facility, located at 12817 Parkview Plaza Drive, Fort Wayne, beginning at 5 p.m.

The presentation by Rev. Patrick Riecke, “Burnout Prevention and Recovery — Two Paths Forward,” will begin in Room 160 at 6 p.m.

Rev. Riecke served as Dignity and Spiritual Care Director and Ethics Chairperson for a magnet health system with more than 16,000 coworkers and 10 hospitals. During his decade in healthcare, his team responded to more than 15,000 patient deaths and he fielded more than 500 clinical ethics consults. He is the author of three books on grief and meaning-making.

His presentation will cover current burnout research, effects of burnout, his personal story and how leaders and individuals can alleviate and recover from burnout.

This event has been approved for 1.0 contact hours for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants.
