MPAS Immunization Policy
Students must remain in compliance with all health clearance requirements prior to engaging in clinical practicum courses. Failure to do so will affect enrollment in clinical practicum courses and may lead to withdrawal from the course. Health clearance requirements include, but are not limited to:
Required Screenings:
Annual Tuberculosis (TB) Screening for entry into program and again before beginning clinical rotations:
- 2-step Mantoux OR Quantiferon
- If positive TB screen, then negative Chest X-Ray is required
Required Immunizations (completed prior to start of the program)
- 2 MMR (rubella, rubeola, and mumps) vaccines or titer
- Tdap (every 10 years)
- 2 Varicella vaccines or titer
- 3 Hep B vaccines or titer
- Influenza vaccination (annually by October 31st)
- COVID-19 vaccination as required
Medical Contraindication/Waivers
If there is medical contraindication to any required immunization(s), verification from the primary healthcare provider must accompany the health record. When any medical contraindication exists, a waiver must be signed by the student to acknowledge that inadvertent exposure might occur and to release the clinical site and university from liability in the event of exposure. If a student elects to waive an immunization requirement(s), placement in a clinical setting cannot be guaranteed. As such, the student may be deemed unable to complete the required clinical education coursework.
