Presidential Search Prospectus

 

Dear Trine University Community,

I hope this message finds you well. As we continue to build upon the incredible legacy of excellence at Trine University, I am writing to share an important update regarding the national search for our next university president.

As mentioned in late June the Trine Board of Trustees assembled a working group to begin the search process and has since engaged Russell Reynolds Associates, a global executive search firm with deep experience in higher education, to assist us in identifying and recruiting the most qualified candidates to lead Trine University into its next era of growth and achievement.

Russell Reynolds, led by partners Steve Newton and Zach Messitte, has a strong track record in presidential searches for prestigious universities across the country.

They are working closely with our Board and key stakeholders to ensure a thorough and inclusive process. This will include developing a comprehensive profile of the ideal candidate, identifying strong prospects, and conducting interviews.

Timeline of the Search Process

The search process will unfold in three main phases over the next several months:

1. Phase 1: Opening the Search (Fall 2024): Russell Reynolds will engage with the Board, faculty, staff, students, and alumni to gather input on the qualities and qualifications most important in our next leader. They have met on numerous occasions with the Board Search Committee and were just recently on campus (Oct. 22) to meet with various groups of students, faculty, and staff. A position specification will be created, and the search for candidates will commence.
2. Phase 2: Narrowing the Focus (Early 2025): After reviewing a broad pool of candidates, Russell Reynolds will help identify a shortlist of the most qualified individuals. These candidates will undergo interviews with the search committee and university leadership.
3. Phase 3: Closing the Search (Spring 2025): Final candidates will be selected for in-depth interviews, with reference checks and comprehensive evaluations conducted to ensure the best possible fit for Trine. We anticipate announcing our new president by late Spring 2025.
