Education studies: Prepare for roles influencing lives of youth

There are many opportunities to work in education for those who want to serve students, but aren’t seeking a teaching license. The Bachelor of Science with a major in education studies at Trine University will prepare you for many of these roles.

Students enrolling in this program as first-year undergraduates are eligible for the 3+3 pathway into Trine's Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree.

The degree: Foundation for education careers

The Bachelor of Science with a major in education studies degree at Trine University equips you with an essential foundation to work in educational roles. It does not lead to state licensure.

As an education studies major, you can complete two or more minors that will allow you to focus on areas of interest. You can choose from coaching, communications, exercise science, leadership, music or psychology, or work with your advisor to choose another option that matches your career goals.

This program is also appropriate for international students looking to gain the benefits of participating in teacher education courses in the United States.

The education studies program will equip you with the knowledge, skills and disposition for a variety of education-aligned careers. You will come to understand how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional and physical areas. You will learn to design and implement developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences.

This program culminates in an immersive senior capstone experience in a setting aligned to your career path.

The Bachelor of Science with a major in education studies prepares you for after-school program roles, private and alternative schools, youth organization development, early childhood education, coaching, strength and conditioning opportunities, and support roles in general and special education, among other areas.
