Transfer credits allow you to save time and money when you're working toward your degree. With TrineOnline's generous credit acceptance, you can apply up to 90 credit hours from prior college courses, experiential learning*, college level examinations, or military coursework and your credits never expire.

College or University Credit Transfers

If you have completed work at another college or university, we make it easy to transfer your credits from other institutions. You may be eligible to transfer a maximum of:

    • 45 credits toward a 60-credit-hour associate degree
    • 90 credits toward most 120-credit-hour bachelor degree ( 81 credits toward RN to BSN)
    • 6 credits towards a 30-credit-hour master’s degree

Transfer criteria is based on:

  • Previous academic study through transfer credit from other regionally accredited college(s) or university(ies)

Experiential Learning and Military Coursework*

Your life experience counts too! You can transfer up to  15 credits toward an associate degree and 30  credits toward a bachelor’s degree from an experiential learning portfolio.

Here's how it works:

For every 40 hours of documented training, you could receive up to one credit hour. (Students can also earn credit for experience that does not include documented hours see below.) This experience may include the following:

  • Military experience - leadership training, basic training, first aid, equipment training and operation, etc.
  • Fire, police and EMT training
  • Cosmetology School
  • First Aid Training and Certifications
  • HVAC Training and Certifications
  • General experience in reading blueprints, welding, CNC operation, quality, and more.
  • Documented employer training, workshops, and seminars.
  • Professional certifications

Trine University recognizes that knowledge gained outside of a classroom may be relevant to your academic degree program. Learning experiences gained through employment, non-collegiate, school-based education or other appropriate channels may be evaluated for course credit.

To be considered for experiential learning, your prior experience must relate specifically to a course at Trine University through course competency evidence with mapping of course learning outcomes or free electives in your program.

An experiential learning portfolio is required as evidence that verifies mastery of course learning outcomes through documentation. If your experiential learning portfolio demonstrates that your prior experience(s) meets all course learning outcomes, your experiential learning will allow you to earn full credit for the course.

For additional information about transfer credits and transfer relationships, please review the Prior Learning Policy and Transfer Student Admission in the Course Catalog.

*Experiential learning does not apply to the RN to BSN degree.
