Dr. Christopher M. Felton has been with the Fort Wayne Police Department since 2007 and currently holds the rank of Detective Sergeant, overseeing both the Gang and Violent Crimes Unit and the Crime Gun Intelligence Center. He developed and leads the department's Peer Support/Critical Incident Stress Management Team, and also serves as a Homicide Team Supervisor, background investigator, Assistant Public Information Officer and voice stress operator.
Dr. Felton has been engaged in higher education since 2013, serving as an adjunct instructor for Trine University and another local college, teaching courses in criminal justice, forensic psychology and emergency management. Dr. Felton is the Criminal Justice Matter Expert for TrineOnline. He is also a trainer for Safer Schools Together, providing training to school districts and law enforcement agencies around the country in behavioral and digital threat assessment.
Dr. Felton worked as a leading investigator/research assistant for a criminal profiling agency where he collaborated on studies that were presented at the American Society of Criminology National Conferences. He has also presented and continues to present at professional conferences throughout the United States and Canada on the topics of first responder mental health, procedural justice and gang investigations. He also served in the Ohio Army National Guard - Military Police for six years.
Dr. Felton holds a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice, a Master of Science in criminal justice with a concentration in forensic psychology, a master's degree in philosophy and a Doctor of Philosophy in criminal justice with a focus on law and public policy.
